Old Man Tom Brady Has a California-Sized Accomplishment Coming His Way in Week 3

Tom Brady has been a force to be reckoned with in the NFL since he first stepped on the field as a rookie. He’s had one of the most impressive careers of all time, and it looks like he just might have another big accomplishment coming his way this week.

Tom Brady is an old man, but he has a California-sized accomplishment coming his way in Week 3.

There aren’t many things Tom Brady hasn’t accomplished in his 22 years in the NFL. We’re talking about someone who took part in his first professional game when pagers were still in use.

Do you even understand the concept of a pager?

You’ve probably seen enough of Brady’s brilliance throughout the years, whether you had a pager or just used iPhones. The three-time NFL MVP is about to create history for the umpteenth time, and it involves a club he’s all too familiar with.

In Week 3, Tom Brady will face the Rams in his first career game in Los Angeles.

Brady has played in almost every stadium imaginable as a result of his 20-year career in the NFL. He started his career at the Pontiac Silverdome in Detroit, went on to win many games in Foxborough, Massachusetts, and even tossed touchdown passes in London.

Brady, who grew up in San Mateo, California, had never played in Los Angeles until the conclusion of the 2020 season. When his Buccaneers meet Matthew Stafford’s Los Angeles Rams in Week 3, that will change.

Despite the fact that Brady had previously played in California, all four of his road games versus the Chargers occurred when the club was still based in San Diego. In those games, the Patriots finished 3-1, with one of them being a road upset in the 2006 AFC Divisional Round. When the Chargers won their sixth meeting, 30-10, in October 2008, the three-time NFL MVP was on injured reserve with a knee injury.

Last December, the Patriots thrashed the now-Los Angeles Chargers 45-0. Brady, on the other hand, was in the middle of his rookie season with the Buccaneers at the time of the game.

Brady and the Rams are hardly strangers to one another.

Brady has only played the Rams five times in the regular season due to his two decades in the AFC East. The seven-time champion had completed 63.6 percent of his passes for 1,208 yards, 10 touchdowns, and four interceptions before Week 3’s matchup, while winning three of his five games.

Something tells us you don’t care about Brady’s 45-0 victory in October of 2012, when he tossed four touchdowns and no picks. You probably don’t care unless you were playing Wes Welker in fantasy football on that particular day and are still annoyed that the great slot receiver didn’t score a touchdown in the rout.

No, you’re more interested in the two Super Bowl matches. Brady, then 24, completed 16 of his 27 throws for 145 yards and a touchdown in the Patriots’ 20-17 win against the highly favored Rams in Super Bowl 36 as a 24-year-old (yep, Brady was ever that young).

Brady and the Patriots faced the Rams — then led by Jared Goff — in the Super Bowl again seventeen years later. New England won 13-3 in a highly anticipated battle of two high-octane defenses, which remains the lowest-scoring Super Bowl in league history as of publishing.

Brady and the Buccaneers are being caught off guard by the Rams at the worst moment.

Brady completed 54.1 percent of his throws for 216 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions in the Buccaneers’ 27-24 defeat on Monday Night Football last November. Since that game, Tampa Bay has won 10 of 11 games, including last year’s Super Bowl run.

The Rams have looked bright at times during their 2-0 start, but they are likely catching Brady at the wrong moment. In the Buccaneers’ first two games, the 44-year-old completed 65.1 percent of his throws for 655 yards, an NFL-high nine touchdowns, and two interceptions — one of which came on a Hail Mary to end the first half in Week 1.

Brady is playing at an MVP level, while Rob Gronkowski, the tight end, is scoring touchdowns like it’s 2011. The Rams constructed their defense around All-Pro defensive end Aaron Donald and shutdown cornerback Jalen Ramsey because of matchups like these.

Don’t be shocked if Brady’s first trip to L.A. isn’t his only encounter with the Rams this season. If all goes according to plan for both teams, we may be getting a sneak peek of the NFC Championship Game.
