In Week 5 of the 2021 NFL season, there were many exciting games, but one of the most contested was likely a surprise to most fans: the Green Bay Packers’ victory against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Throughout the past several years, the Packers have been one of the greatest teams in football, while the Bengals have been one of the worst. On Sunday, though, those teams faced off in a back-and-forth battle that ended in overtime, with Green Bay ultimately winning 25-22.
Packers wide receiver Davante Adams had a great day in Week 5, as he does most days, but he also made a big assertion afterward. In fact, if his claims are accurate, they might be the AFC North’s worst nightmare.

In each of the previous two seasons, the Green Bay Packers finished 13-3 and advanced to the NFC Championship Game. The Bengals, on the other hand, have only won four games in each of the past two seasons and haven’t made the playoffs since 2015. As a result, many supporters anticipated a blowout in favor of the Packers in Week 5’s game between Green Bay and Cincinnati.
That, however, was not the case.
In the first quarter, Cincinnati held Aaron Rodgers and the Packers at bay, and Joe Burrow’s team led 7-0 at the half. Green Bay, on the other hand, rallied to take a 16-7 lead in the second quarter and a 16-14 advantage at halftime.
The Packers ultimately led 22-14 in the fourth quarter until the Bengals knotted it with 3:27 remaining on a Joe Mixon touchdown run and two-point conversion. However, with fewer than three minutes remaining in the game, both teams wasted chances to seize the lead, as Green Bay’s Mason Crosby missed two field goals and Cincinnati’s Evan McPherson missed one, forcing the game into overtime.
Crosby and McPherson both missed field goals in overtime, but the former kicked a 49-yard field goal with two minutes remaining to help the Packers win 25-22. With the victory, they improved to 4-1, while Cincinnati dropped to 3-2.
Davante Adams of the Packers and Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase were clearly the game’s top performances. Chase had six receptions for 159 yards and a score, while Adams grabbed 11 passes for 206 yards and a touchdown.
Despite the fact that his team won, Adams subsequently praised the Bengals after the game.

The Packers had much to celebrate after a lengthy game that had its ups and downs for both sides. During his post-game news conference, Adams was asked about their celebration.
According to the Packers’ YouTube channel, “it’s difficult to win games in this league, and the Bengals are a strong club.” “It’s not like the old Bengals, who everyone simply expects to lose. They have a very strong offense, and they have some players on defense who can make plays.”
Few people believed the Bengals were as good as their 3-1 record suggested heading into Week 5, but their performance against the Packers showed them to be the genuine thing.
And for the AFC North, it might be an issue.
The AFC North’s greatest fear is a good Cincinnati Bengals squad.
The Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Baltimore Ravens were the three playoff teams in the AFC North in 2020. The Bengals, on the other hand, may potentially make life tough for all of those clubs.
Cincinnati can not only compete in games against divisional opponents, but they may also sabotage postseason hopes by winning a handful of games against their rivals.
They’ve also beaten the Steelers this season.
While their performance this season may have an effect on the playoff rankings and perhaps help them make the playoffs, the Bengals’ potential should worry all three AFC North clubs. The Browns and Ravens have the greatest prospects in the division, thanks to their explosive offenses and excellent defenses, but the Bengals have almost as much young talent at the skill positions as they do. Cincy is only a couple players away from becoming a great team, which might mean a difficult division championship battle every year.
Overall, the Bengals have offensive and defensive components that can make them a force to be reckoned with for many years. On offensively, teams won’t want to face Burrow, Chase, Mixon, and Tee Higgins, and on defense, Trey Hendrickson, Jessie Bates III, and Logan Wilson.
If Cincinnati maintains its upward trend, the AFC North will be the greatest loser, and every season’s division championship competition will be a grueling uphill fight.
