Fear the Walking Dead’s Villainous Victor Strand Is the New Negan

The Walking Dead Season 7 introduced a new villain to the show. Victor Strand is an antagonist, but he’s also not your typical bad guy. We break down what makes him unique and why this season will be unlike any before it.

The “does alicia die in fear the walking dead” is a question that has been asked since AMC’s “Fear the Walking Dead” premiered. Since then, Victor Strand has become one of the most hated characters on TV.

This post includes spoilers for Season 7 Episode 5 of Fear the Walking Dead, “Till Death.” There’s a new Negan to be concerned about. On The Walking Dead, after Sherry (Christine Evangelista) fled the Saviors and Negan’s (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) Sanctuary, her husband Dwight (Austin Amelio) searched the nation — and shows — for her. Dwight and Sherry reunited on Fear Season 6 over Negan’s PTSD: living under Pioneer commander Virginia’s (Colby Minifie) oppression. Sherry decided to start over with Dwight for their fresh beginning after spending last season hunting for Virginia to purge her Negan demons.

Teddy Maddox (John Glover), on the other hand, ended Season 6 by turning Texas into the epicenter of the nuclear zombie apocalypse. Dwight and Sherry hid with the Larsons in a storm cellar in “The Beginning,” rescuing them from Teddy’s acolytes.

The Dark Horses are a group of people that aren’t

Months later, Dwight and Sherry are the Dark Horses: now-legendary outlaws who protect people from jerks while working under a code of honor. Victor Strand (Colman Domingo), the friend-turned-enemy at war with Morgan Jones (Lennie James) from atop his Tower, escaped the aftermath.

In “Till Death,” the ex-Saviors are forcibly reunited with Strand and promised residence in The Tower provided they can find Mickey (Aisha Tyler), a resident Strand claims is intent on a suicide mission in pursuit of her husband and the legendary destination Padre. Strand, who pushed Will (Gus Halper) from the roof to open Season 7, adds, “We’re quite cautious about who we allow in and out of our little sanctuary.”

Dwight and Sherry see the walker images on the wall. Strand claims to be there to find The Tower group’s lost loved ones, similar to how the Saviors on The Walking Dead gathered Polaroids of Negan’s victims. “You know, we used to live in a place like this. And that didn’t go so well, did it? “Strand is informed by Sherry. “And the fact that you’re calling this a sanctuary convinces me that it isn’t.”

There is no refuge.

Dwight wants to make a deal to get Kevin (Aaron Spivey-Sorrells), Kim (Julia Barnett), and their daughter Briga a spot in Strand’s Tower (Ella McCain). Sherry wants to locate Mickey, so she asks Sherry to assist her in finding her husband, and the three of them work together to find Padre. However, the former WWE star refuses to return, revealing the actual reason Strand wants her back: Mickey is the only one who has escaped Strand’s zombie moat at The Tower. He’ll go to any length to ensure that no one else discovers how.

The Larson family is found slain in the storm basement by hired shooter Eli (Alex Skuby), who is seeking vengeance after falling afoul of the Dark Horses earlier in the episode. Strand allegedly put out a hit on the Larsons in return for a spot in The Tower, according to Eli, who was caught with Polaroid images.

Another revelation: Dwight only contemplated returning Mickey to The Tower so that he might establish a family with Sherry in a safe environment. Dwight informs Sherry that Strand ordered the Larsons slain in order to “make us question ourselves, make us wonder our code.” “Make us believe that his way is the only way, which it isn’t. I’d rather fight with you than hide with him, thus I’d rather die fighting with you.”

Explained: The New Negan

On Fear the Walking Dead Episode Insider, co-showrunner Ian Goldberg noted, “I believe it’s the moment when Dwight sees those Polaroids with Eli and knows that accepting any type of deal with Strand is equal to pitching in with Negan at the Sanctuary.” “It’s simply a fresh version of it, and he won’t allow himself to go there again.”

After Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) arrested Negan to finish the Savior War in Season 8, Daryl (Norman Reedus) deported Dwight from Virginia, prompting Dwight’s cross-country quest for Sherry after she left the Sanctuary and vanished during Season 7.

“There’s a lot of suspicion,” Goldberg said, “that plays on Dwight’s own trauma from his history, what happened with Negan, and he’s justifiably wary of Strand’s motivations.” “Strand is on the lookout for someone who has fled The Tower, claiming to have her best interests at heart. Strand’s treatment of the Larsons reveals a lot about what he’s ready to do to accomplish what he wants.”

The Vic-tatorship, according to the showrunner: “This is similar to the Strand in ‘The Beacon,’ who threw Will over the roof. Victor Strand isn’t beyond engaging in some ethically dubious behavior in order to protect what he’s created and who he’s become.”
